1 out of 5 stars Buy something else   November 29, 2008

I'm only giving this one star because the size & clarity of the display.
Other than that the unit is rubbish. The took me six month to get the cradle to stay on the dash, the ball socket is worn out after a few uses and the unit just flops down, the latch that holds iy in place in the cradle has stopped working.
I've had it 11 months and I bet only used it once or twice a month
It takes me some of wackiest routes ever and if you change settings, particularly to 'fast' route, if you deviate, all it does is ask to make 'U' turn, it will not calculate the route.
Takes forever to lock onto satellites (you can nearly finish the journey before it starts to navigate).
And really complicated to set up on PC with Vista.
Buy something else, that's what I'll be doing.

4 out of 5 stars Very good for this price   August 21, 2008

I agree with many of the pros and cons detailed by other people. However I think this is a very good machine indeed! Having used TomTom for 4 years I am bored with it (like a Nokia Phone I suppose), I was looking for a change so I decided on a Sony, for 100 it gives you map up to Paris (that's exactly what I wanted, I just need a sat nav that can take me to Calais! Buying a whole Western Europe map would be a waste of money for me as I would never think of driving that far anyway), wide screen, day/night auto screen adjustment. What more do you expect? A TomTom One couldn't give you those!

The machine catches signal within seconds if you switch on at the same place as you switch off previously. Otherwise it may take a minute or so to find a signal.

I must say the battery life is a bit annoying, I remember I could use my old TomTom for hours before charging it, so I would suggest you to keep it charging all the time. I find the suction holder quite hard to take out, and the pad catches dust too easily. I also find marks on my windscreen all the time that I have to clean up using a wet towel.

Apart from that, I am very happy with the machine and I think it's definitely a good buy.

If you don't drive to Europe at all and you are not bored with TomTom, then I must say I would suggest you to go for a TomTom One.

Again, what more can you expect for the price? It gives more than other models of the same value.

1 out of 5 stars Simply awful, worst Sat Nav I have ever used   August 16, 2008
Mr. Brian O'Neill (Northern Ireland)
I have the garmin satnav but i recently left it to my brother who was holidaying in Spain. My garmin has European maps.

In return he lent me his sony device.

I can not stress how awful this device is:
-The interface is complex and unusable, I am a geek who creates websites for a living and I found it next to impossible to use.
-The device is very slow
-The maps are not very detailed, many addresses we entered it could not find.

This sony is over engineered and utterly frustrating to use, I felt like taking a hammer to it.

In contrast my garmin is very fast, easy to use and great maps. Please click over to the garmins or tom toms you will thank me. If you do not believe it could be that bad take a trip to Halfords or somewhere to try it out so you can see for yourself.

Bottom line is avoid all sony sat nav.

I don't know what all the fuss and low scores are about!

It's an excellent piece of equipment, very reliable and with the quality Sony is well known for, you can't go wrong for the price!

1 out of 5 stars BEWARE - Can be dangerous   July 22, 2008

I bought this for my husband's birthday. He's never used one before. We were travelling in Bedfordshire, all of a Sudden it told us we were near the River Thames and needed to turn right - in which case we would have gone into a field. Later on it told us something similar in which case we would have driven into a long hedge. Also I had trouble turning it on although it was plugged into the cigarette socket, and the car was running, it kept turning itself off. We needed to concentrate fully on this and if a person is driving by themselves it can be extremely dangerous. We have both been put off completely from using it. If you are not used to these things BE VERY CAREFUL.
