After looking around for quite a while at different satnav makes and models, i opted for the 3790T and was lucky enough to get one for Fathers day earlier this year. I was impressed straight away with it's overall size and looks. A sleek looking unit with a lot of nice features, easy to set up and get going with, right out of the box. However, i have had a couple of minor niggles. On one relatively short journey the unit completely froze just as i reached my destination and after a few attempts, i managed to turn it off. I remember thinking at the time just how unusually hot the nuvi was in my hands before it finally shut down. I started it a few minutes later after it had cooled and the problem has never repeated itself since. On another occasion it could not find any satellite reception for the first ten minutes of the journey, suddenly bursting into life when it did. Like before though, this is another problem that has not repeated itself.
My nuvi took a software upgrade earlier this week from Garmin, which brings me to another point for potential buyers. After you have registered your nuvi with Garmin, you get to use their website for new software downloads, maps etc, via the myDashboard option on the webpage. Garmin's advice here after a software download is to disconnect your device and let it automatically restart, shut it down manually, then reconnect to your pc making sure the upgrade has taken effect. It's slightly flawed however. My unit would not automatically restart after the software upgrade from the site, basically, i never new if it had upgraded or not. After reconnecting the unit to the pc, i would still be presented with the same ''new software available'' option. After some frustration, followed by a email to Garmin support, i got a next day answer.

''Garmin suggest using their WebUpdater to identify any potential software upgrades for your unit, which will also identify any recent upgrades you may have had earlier problems with, from the myDashboard setup''.

In essence, the myDashboard feature for the 3790T is unreliable.

The WebUpdater is a much better option for upgrades, and i'm happy to say my nuvi is now up to date without any major issue's.

To sum up, i still think the 3790T is a good buy, teething problems aside, and to date, it has worked very well without any more glitches.

4 out of 5 stars garmin 3790T - excellent   August 21, 2010

I bought a 3790T after much deliberation - I was considering android based navigation and needed something that would be loud enough and bright enough to work in a convertible. I'm very happy with the 3790T - voice command works really well for me, bluetooth with both a blackberry and nokia e51 works well. GPS is picked up very quickly. screen is very bright and really clear even in bright sunlight with the roof down. I did upgrade the software and maps as soon as i got it so that may be why i have had no issues.

4 out of 5 stars Better   August 11, 2010

I owned the Nuvi 765T and thought I would upgrade to the Nuvi 3790T I't so much better then the old nuvis. The only problem with it, is thrd part POI's don't all show up. Ihave the new firmware installed 2.50 which come out in August 2010 but the still have not fixed the POI fault. Maybe the next firmware update will fix it. Apart from this the unit is a great device.

Apart of what they say one thing is for sure. You have to keep all Gamin's updated always. Perhaps for those may complain about frozen screen or switch off and on again by it self, just update your unit and mainly will solve the problems out. But in my point of view there is a problem, which is very annoying not only with 3790T but with all Garmin's used FM receiving traffic signals. The additional antenna sticks on the windscreen it helps but it's not the solution. In other words, you traveling in a motorway that suppose supported 100% of traffic services but you get 80%, and in the way back, same motorway, you get maybe 25%. I am sure Garmin will release 3790 with on line nulink services like 1690 hopefully soon. However, the smart design, high-resolution bright screen, and the ease of use make the difference. Conclusion is the best all around product in the market at this moment, and full recommended.
