This is a review of TomTom Customer Services! September 5, 2010 Ned Middleton (British professional underwater photo-journalist & author) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I already have a TomTom satellite navigation system and use it regularly. I rate this as a 5 Star product. I shall soon be travelling extensively throughout Europe by road and recently saw an opportunity to purchase a spare unit quite cheaply at a sale. Although an older model, the unit was still boxed, absolutely complete and appeared to be unused. It would not, however, switch on but, thinking it needed nothing more than charging, I took a chance and bought it.
I tried everything (As did my local store) but the unit simply would not switch on. Eventually, I contacted TomTom Customer Services and told them how the I had obtained the unit and that it was "NOT" under guarantee. Their service was exceptional. Firstly, they sent me a small package containing a cardboard box which, when assembled, fitted my TomTom unit perfectly and would clearly protect the unit whilst in the post. Secondly, the package also contained a Royal Mail "Special Delivery" envelope complete with address and tracking number. Postage and insurance were already paid by TomTom.
Within 24 hours of my posting the unit back to TomTom I received an email confirming receipt and within 7 days I got another unit back. TomTom had REPLACED my unit free of charge with a brand new and exactly the same model and ALL under guarantee!
So for those of you who are contemplating purchasing a TomTom satellite navigation system, I thought you might like to know about this company's follow-up customer services system. They are quite excellent and I hope this message is useful.

I would love to comment on this product but unfortunately i didn't receive it. I ordered it and waited for over a month and still nothing then to cap it all I received a bill for something i hadn't even received yet. so then you can have a comment, rubbish, absolute rubbish service and I will think twice before deciding to purchase anything from Amazon again.
Another floored Tomtom August 8, 2010 Paul J. Willson 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This looks really good but alas it was just as all the other negative reviews have said, no expandable memory
slot and trying to upload and install the new maps takes ages and then won't work, tech support is next to usless.
I sent this item back for a full refund the purchased a Navigon from halfords, with expandable memory slot and free map uk and eu and speed camera updates for a year.
IQ compared to the GO July 26, 2010 Steve (Warrington) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
My only other experience of a sat nav is a tom tom GO live which 'died' on me after 18 months, so having decided to purchase this model from the countless others I am basing my review in comparison to the GO version.
The reason I opted for this is because I didnt want to subscribe to any of the features available with other versions, but I am surprised at how basic this system is in relation to the GO. It takes longer to find a route, it doesnt enable you to view the route step by step unlike the GO version, which I found having a bearing of the route in your head beforehand quite useful. You stop at the services and turn your system off, turn it on again and you have to plan your route from the start all over again, unlike the GO which stored this information for you in its memory and you just turned it on and you were on your way again. It also doesn't recognise HOME on my system and I have to go to recent destinations all the time and select my address and it doesnt show a map of my current area but somewhere else in the country, maybe just a software bug.
The positives about the system are the easy to read display and I do enjoy the points of interest to find supermarkets and restaurants. All in all it does the job a sat nav is supposed to do and I have saved time and money on taking some scenic b road routes instead of motorways. It's just not as user friendly as the GO.
this unit not as easy to opperate as you think June 23, 2010 suziq (London.uk) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I got This Unit As I Have Had A Tom Tom One Europ For Over 5 Years .. Thought It Was About Time To Upgrade .. I Read the Info On It So Bought The XL.IQ
Europ
Was I In For A Nasty Suprise.. The Instruction Manuel Is 4 Pages Of Not Much .. You Have to Go Online And They(tomtom) Want You To Print Off 66 Pages Of Instructions? !..
Anyway i Thought This Cant Be That Bad .... It Was .. I Know I'm No Computer Wizz But Only One Screen And One Advanced Screen ..home / favorites / postcodes . and Camera Locations either On Or Off thats it ...But No Warning Tones That Other Models have when you setting up the device
The Unit Kept Wanting Me To Go To Tescos at Bromley By bow in London .. And Just Kept Showing Me 100's Of Petrol Stations .. No Fixed Camera Location display /
Usa Voice Commands altho I Keept Changing The Voice ..
Volume Level Having To Try to Drive And Adjust It Higher As Could Not Hear as you can only adjust volume when a command was given....
Bla Bla .. All In All Very Disapointed With This Unit .. Needless To Say It Has Been Returned And I Have Bought A Standatd But WideScreen Tom Tom One .. Which I Should Have Got In The 1st Place
