This is a review of TomTom Customer Services! September 5, 2010 Ned Middleton (British professional underwater photo-journalist & author) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I already have a TomTom satellite navigation system and use it regularly. I rate this as a 5 Star product. I shall soon be travelling extensively throughout Europe by road and recently saw an opportunity to purchase a spare unit quite cheaply at a sale. Although an older model, the unit was still boxed, absolutely complete and appeared to be unused. It would not, however, switch on but, thinking it needed nothing more than charging, I took a chance and bought it.
I tried everything (As did my local store) but the unit simply would not switch on. Eventually, I contacted TomTom Customer Services and told them how the I had obtained the unit and that it was "NOT" under guarantee. Their service was exceptional. Firstly, they sent me a small package containing a cardboard box which, when assembled, fitted my TomTom unit perfectly and would clearly protect the unit whilst in the post. Secondly, the package also contained a Royal Mail "Special Delivery" envelope complete with address and tracking number. Postage and insurance were already paid by TomTom.
Within 24 hours of my posting the unit back to TomTom I received an email confirming receipt and within 7 days I got another unit back. TomTom had REPLACED my unit free of charge with a brand new and exactly the same model and ALL under guarantee!
So for those of you who are contemplating purchasing a TomTom satellite navigation system, I thought you might like to know about this company's follow-up customer services system. They are quite excellent and I hope this message is useful.

A Change of Heart August 25, 2010 Tony 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I resisted buying a SATNAV because I thought I didn't need one. I was wrong!
Tom-Tom live is terrific. With it I find driving in places I do not know much more relaxing. I am able to concentrate on driving, not looking for road signs or trying to read a map as I go along. But what is really good is the live traffic updates with different routes being offered to avoid congestion. Travelling to London from the north the other day, my route changed twice and I avoided a nightmare on the Dartford Crossing.
Arrival time estimates are remarkably accurate too.
With the Live element I can now find the cheapest fuel on my route and Google restaurants, etc.
Tom-Tom Live is the best buy I have made in many a day
Good piece of kit August 5, 2010 Nancy Adu (London, UK) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased the TomTom XL Live IQ Routes a few days ago and I'm loving everything about it so far.
The menus are very easy to navigate, the product itself is very light in weight.
The only problem I am having with it at the moment is setting up to the live services. The product comes with a free 12 months subscription to live services but there are no instructions on connecting to this service.
If anyone knows how I can gain access to the service,Please let me know.
The Perfect SatNav? July 18, 2010 Ian B 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
A good Sat Nav, although in common with all, the Maps aren't completely up to date, although I've loaded Tom Tom's latest.
The Live feature is excellent, both for keeping me informed of the traffic situation on route and also for finding local amenity's. Type in the name i.e a shop and town or select nearby and it'll guide you there!
I'd like to be able to select a preference for major roads, as TomTom will take you down narrow roads, to cut a corner.
Migration from older TomTom July 12, 2010 Trevor Woodward (Slough, UK) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I was wary about buying another TomTom as my previous experience was that when they work, they're fantastic but when they don't you're on your own. As a previous device had died during an update, imagine my anxiety about trying to move from an old, but working, TomTom One to this TomTom XL Live IQ Routes using the same Windows XP computer.
As it turned out, my fears were unfounded. The XL required a software update straight out of the box but I had taken the precaution of ensuring that my TomTom Home was up to date before plugging anything in. There was a long-ish list of update actions which the computer and the XL between them wanted to undertake so I went to make a cup of tea and let them get on with it.
Simply following the on-screen instructions on my return got me to where I wanted to be - functioning, up-to-date device with live traffic info.
All being well this is the start of a beautiful relationship with my new TomTom.
