| Customer Reviews: Making driving simple June 17, 2010 Mr. Brendan Fogarty 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This SatNav is just brilliant, the amount of information available to the user is just incredible - hotels in a specific town/city with a telephone number to mention just one. After driving through France and then across to England and finally arriving in Ireland without once having to look at a map my only comment was "how did I manage without a SatNav before" Garmin Nuvi 265WT
good in parts June 10, 2010 Brian Lowe 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've used other SatNavs and I read previous reviews so I thought I knew what to expect. Mostly this performs as expected.
Especially good...
The screen is clear in all but the brightest sunlight.
Directions are clear and concise, especially spoken street and motorway junction names (subject to choosing one of the TTS voices).
Bluetooth links reliably to my phone for hands-free.
Traffic warnings seem accurate and timely.
Disappointments...
Display auto-zoom cuts detail, hiding side roads etc. if it deems them not significant. I've turned too early several times thinking that the next *actual* road is the one shown on the map.
Weird routing: e.g. Bristol to London is obviously M4 all the way, but this device had me off at Jcn 13, pootling through Newbury for 25 minutes then on again at Jcn 12. Sure, on a map the line is shorter, but 13-12 on the motorway would be lots quicker. Coming North up the M6 it has you off at Jcn 17, up the slip road, across the roundabout then back down the slip road to rejoin the motorway! Why? I've got used to zooming out and doing a quick visual check of the route planned so I can ignore such nonsense. Recalculating is quick if you take a wrong turn (or your own route).
Traffic seems to rely on the 12v lead, so doesn't work while the unit isn't plugged in (while I'm charging my phone, for example).
I haven't been abroad with it yet, so can't vouch for the European maps, but so far it's done OK with lots of UK destinations, including very recent developments and caravan parks.
Overall it's a great unit.

All in all not a very good purchase. I went to the Lakes and the way my sat nav brought me back was over hill and glen. It doesnt give options like my last navigon and you cannot see the route so as to make a decision!
I am saving up for a new one poss tom tom as this one is dangerous in not giving options nor a route profile.

Although quick start got me going I could have done with a bit more detail. Looked at downloading full instructions from Garmin site but couldn't find them.
Great unit, but............................. January 26, 2010 Lord Lichfield (UK) 60 out of 62 found this review helpful
I bought this unit just before Christmas as i heard that Garmin's Sat Nav's were the 'one to go for' at the time. I had a good old faithfull Tom Tom 910 which was an all singing and dancing unit and had accumulated dozens of favourites over a long period. I had a notification from Tom Tom saying that a new map was ready for downloading and.....................oh dear....
Maybe i should of backed up my favourites beforehand but i assumed it was just the map that was being upgraded - not the whole unit! Consequently, i lost all my favourites and i wasn't a happy bunny.
Tom Tom did return my emails with possible suggestions in finding them but no luck i'm afraid. So a decision was made to go for a newer unit and i ended up purchasing this Garmin nuvi 265WT and all in all, its a great unit.
Very slim and i love the dashboard suction mount so its no more smears on the windscreen. From switching on the unit it seems to take just a few seconds for the satelites to get a fix and away you go.
My only critisisms is that motorways are in RED which is very annoying especially as i'm use to seeing them in blue. Another complaint is i like to see how many miles there are left to my destination, something the Garmin doesn't show and also i like to see my route from start to finish to check on what route i'll be taking and with the Garmin, that's not possible. Why oh why is the highlighted route in pink?
The map display on the garmin looks good and the text to speech is very good in deed.
Apart from the few niggles, its a great unit.
