Awesome value for moneySeptember 1, 2010 Almauk Got that 1 month ago, updated 2 times via internet. Strong built, nice plastic overall brilliant device. Fast map loading, fuel saver features and much more.
The only downside so far - roads built too quickly to be in satnav. Few times navigated wrong, because of Garmin maps(you cant expect other brands to work 100%).
Tried to use Binatone SatNav - in comparisson. And its totally rubish.
If You are looking to get SatNav I recommend to stick atleast to Garmin brand.
Thanks,
ALmantas
BrilliantAugust 27, 2010 idlee For the money - this is a great product, Easy to use, easy to set up and all the controls are intuitive and straightforward. I loved the easy mount unit and it's ptions for grill mounting. As it's small it'll not take up too much room in the Glove box either. Brilliant
From A - ZAugust 16, 2010 Gilly B(Sussex) A fantastic piece of kit, does what it is intended for, getting you from A - Z. Relatively easy to set up, a bit of time & patience needed. The full set of instructions have to be downloaded from the WWW, but basic getting you up and running instructions included. My only issue was the instructions down loaded from the Garmin web site, that were incorrect ( screen calibration ) A phone call to Garmin rectified the problem, but as to whether the instructions from the web have been updated, I don't now. No USB cable supplied, a seperate and inexpensive extra ordered from Amazon at the same time, quickly dispatched By Amazon, all said & done 10/10.
Perfect little satnavAugust 9, 2010 Phil McCracken(UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my first standalone satnav after a couple of built-in units and a while using phone-based navigation. The Garmin Nuvi 1240 is a neat little unit, less obstructive than a large screen or widescreen one (that so many people seem to put right in front of their faces - idiots) and can be easily tucked away in a corner of the windscreen. The initial setup and update was easy, took a while to download and install but was painless. The unit is a doddle to use, I've not had to open the instruction book yet. Navigation has been faultless so far but will face its first real test in France in a couple of weeks - I see no reason why it should be any different to how it's behaved so far.
For the money, this is a great little satnav (at an amazing price considering it comes with all the main European maps) and one which I would recommend to anyone.
A Very Good Basic Sat Nav!August 4, 2010 D. Russell(West Midlands UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I brought the Garmin Nuvi 1240 off the advice of my brother who has an older Garmin Nuvi 255, who told me it was simple and clear to use. I brought my sat nav for a holiday to Scotland (where i have never been before) and i must admit that i was a bit sceptical beforehand, as I relied on maps and didnt want to make the change, but in lots of ways, I am pleased i did. The display is clear, as are the voice instructions, which also say street names, the sound is very good and the unit build quality is high. I was a little disappointed that no case, USB wire or mains charger were in the box, for what is quite an expensive product, but I managed to get an accessory kit for around £20 with them all in.
When driving, the Garmin has been very good, there are 2 questions which you are faced with, "Where to" and "View Map". You can search for a place with full postcode and on the basis of place name and address and then are met with a "Go" button to start navigating. The unit got a satellite fix within a couple of seconds, after the initial registration, which on mine took around 5 minutes. You can put extra points of interest on if you want to (the garmin website is a good start), use the internal database of 100+ POI and also navigate by photo. I have not tried the city explorer function yet, but hope to in due course on holiday. Overall, a very good product, simple, uncluttered and easy to use. I recommend that you try one!
