Slow start up time but otherwise excellent entry level tom-tom, do you really need anything else?August 31, 2010 Gavcwc Had an old tom-tom one which got nicked and really struggled without one for the month afterwards- scary how much i relied on it to get me to new places without even realising!
Was toying with the idea of getting the new garmin with built in tv- then saw the tom tom one for a third of the price.
The new tom tom one has a better design than the old one- the built in suction cap to attach to the wind screen works really well and hasn't fallen off once (unlike the old one). Feels solid, good responsive controls. Very small and easy portability. Battery life is about 2 hours on a full charge
I'm liking the new updated software and the free extra poi's + voices you can download for it. This is the first time i've had speed cameras + speed limit warnings, its pretty useful- sadly not all the locations are up to date (unless you want to fork out a regular subscription charge- no thanks!) Also it doesn't differentiate which side of the road a camera is on- so even if the camera is for traffic going the opposite direction- it will still beep!
My only gripe is the slow start up speed- i updated the software to get the apparent faster location positioning but sometimes it still takes anything up to 8 minutes before it finds the satellite. It feels slower than my old tom-tom one in that respect.

From the start, battery life was desperately short - often running out before the end of the journey - after less than 3 hours operation.
The device would switch off occasionally without warning.
Eventually, after a software upgrade, the unit refused to switch on. It's never worked since.
Tom Tom customer service were totally unhelpful and could offer no remedy. Oddly, this happens one week after the end of the warranty period.
I replaced the unit with a Garmin, which has proved faultless

Its admittedly my first Satnav, but I have seen my friends ones and this is far superior. Maps and directions are clear. Places can be found very quickly and it remembers places you have been for ages.
Its a simple unit, but it does what it says on the tin and 1 year on, its very reliable and works fine.
Only problem I had was when you switch it on when you get in your car, it takes 2 or 3 minutes to find a satellite sometimes, but if you plug it in your computer and do an update, its fine.

Excellent Product Good price fast delivery item is spot on used it 3 times and haven't got lost once!unlike my previous sat nav that tried to send me up a one way street.
